Double-winning midfielder Dave, who scored 51 goals in 318 appearances for us between 1959 and 1968 and is widely recognised as one of the best players ever to represent Spurs, passed away on March 2 at the age of 80.
A host of former team-mates, supporters and football dignitaries attended his funeral in Edinburgh on March 24, as well as a specially-arranged Memorial Service in Enfield on April 30, while thousands of fans signed a book of condolence at White Hart Lane in Dave's memory.
Isobel has sent the following message, which she has asked us to publish...
My family and I would like to sincerely thank Tottenham Hotspur for their generous hospitality and tributes - colleagues, friends, the fans and those who attended my beloved David’s (RIP) funeral and memorial service.
Special thanks to Reverend Paul Atherton for his most comforting service. Heartfelt thanks to our dear friend Cliff Jones for his wonderful tributes. Also, John Fennelly and cousin Ninian Cassidy for their caring and ongoing support. Chas Hodges, of Chas’n’Dave, for being there, his music which David loved and enjoyed so much. Not forgetting Tottenham Tribute Trust in our times of need.
I’ve now received with immense gratitude the tremendous book of condolences which we will treasure forever, also the lovely photos. We have been completely overwhelmed by the many expressions of sympathy received at this sad time.
I feel doubly blessed to have been David’s wife for 60 wonderful years, he was special and precious. We miss him more than words can say. His love of Spurs will remain in our hearts always. With our grateful thanks to each and every one, you did David proud.
Sincerely and love – God bless,
Isobel Mackay and Family
