Our legendary former captain and Club Ambassador was back out on the hallowed turf he graced as a first team player for 13 years, leading a Ledley Guest XI to a 6-3 victory against a Spurs XI.
Once again donning his famous number 26 shirt, Ledley opened the scoring on the night from the penalty spot after he was hauled down in the box by Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul!
Teddy Sheringham netted twice to put Ledley’s team in charge at 3-1 and Louis Saha stole the show with a second half hat-trick to secure victory for the Guest XI. Emmanuel Adebayor, Nathan Oduwa and Etienne Capoue replied for the first team.
The scoreline didn’t matter though as it was all about one man - player, captain, ambassador and legend, Ledley King.
“Words can’t sum up how I feel right now,” said Ledley on the pitch after the final whistle. “It’s an emotional night for me.
“Of course, I’d like to thank all the fans for turning up. I’ve always said that through all the tough times, when I was struggling, when I was breaking down, it was always the fans that gave me the motivation to get myself fit and back on the pitch.
“I’d like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to have a Testimionial match and the teams for giving their time and all the people behind the scenes that worked so hard to make it happen.
“Winning the League Cup was a special moment, especially being the captain and that was a great, great night but tonight is a night I’ll never forget. It’s a special, special night for me.”
