There are a couple of familiar faces currently plying their trade at our UEFA Cup opponents Anorthosis Famagusta.

There are a couple of familiar faces currently plying their trade at our UEFA Cup opponents Anorthosis Famagusta.

The Cyprus team is managed by former Georgian striker Temur Ketsbaia, the fiery striker who made his name in England with Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, the club's star name is former Southampton forward and Latvian international Marian Pahars, who scored 43 goals in 137 appearances for the Saints.

Here are a few more facts on Anorthosis Famagusta...

- They beat Macedonia side Vardar 2-0 on aggregate in the first qualifying round and came through 3-1 on aggregate against Cluj of Romania in the second qualifying round.

- Won their tenth Cypriot Cup to earn a run in the UEFA Cup.

- Finished third in their league last year.

- Based in Lanarca, the stadium is called the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium, capacity 9,650.

- League champions 12 times.

- League season begins this weekend.

- Leading scorer last season Nicos Nicolaou who scored ten goals in 24 league games as a centre-back.

- Missed out on Europe last season, but in 2005/06 campaign they were eliminated by Rangers in Champions League third qualifying round and then fell to Palermo in UEFA Cup first round.

- Their kit colours are all blue.
