From there it was the Gareth Bale show as the flying winger scored a hat-trick in just over 20 minutes, his first in the Premier League, to wrap up a deserved victory.
“It was a good performance from the beginning to the end,” said Andre.
“The players were really up for it. They played so much good football in the first half that it was a little unfair that we arrived at half-time at 0-0.
“The players adapted well to Villa’s changes at half-time and all-round, for 90 minutes, it was an excellent performance both individually and collectively.”
We enjoyed 70 per cent possession in the first half, had 11 efforts at goal to Villa’s one and had 15 corners!
“We arrived at the dressing room and complimented the players for what they’d done but the problem is anything can happen,” added Andre.
“Villa came back strongly at the start of the second half, they could have created a chance that might have put them 1-0 up and then you never know. But we held on well and got the reward we deserved.”
After completely dominating the first half without reward, the goals finally flowed once Jermain Defoe made the breakthrough on 57 minutes.
