Over 85,000 fans created Spurs history at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, last night.

The final attendance of 85,011 for our UEFA Champions League opener against AS Monaco is now our record home attendance.

It surpassed our previous mark of 75,038 set for an FA Cup sixth round tie against Sunderland at White Hart Lane on March 5, 1938.

That's not all though...

English club record

The figure of 85,011 now means we now hold the record for the highest attendance for a home match for an English club.

We have toppled the previous best of 84,569 held by Manchester City for an FA Cup tie against Stoke at Maine Road in 1934.

Champions League home match record for an English club

Our 85,011 attendance is now the highest by an English club for a home match in the Champions League.

The previous best was held by Manchester United, 75,520 against Lyon at Old Trafford on March 4, 2008.

We were just short of the record attendance for a Champions League match in England.

The top two attendances are both Champions League Finals at Wembley - 86,298 for Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich in 2013 and the highest, 87,695 for Manchester United v Barcelona in 2011.

It's also worth noting higher attendances in the Champions League's former guise as the European Cup. Again, two finals staged at the old Wembley Stadium attracted over 90,000 - Liverpool's win against Club Brugge in 1978 had a crowd of 92,500 and United's win against Benfica in 1967 was watched by 92,225.
