17s go under the Hammer

The under-17s fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at West Ham after taking the lead through Charlie Lee.

Academy coach Michael Stone provides the details...

"We started quite brightly and had good periods of possession. We took the lead on the half hour mark following a free-kick from the left which was taken by Stuart Lewis and took a flick off the outside of Charlie Lee's boot and ended up in the corner of the net.

"The team deserved to be ahead but, unfortunately, West Ham equalised just before half-time through a mishap in our defence. We went in a 1-1 but were quite positive about the performance.

"We started well again in the second half, but West Ham scored after about ten minutes with a free header in the six yard box - both goals were scored by Clive Allen's son.

"On the whole we were fairly pleased because the team enjoyed good periods of possession, but just lacked the final finish. It was a young team with five or six schoolboys and they did good things to enhance their reputations."

Team: Forecast, Wright, Riley, Lee, Kyriacou, Heller (Maghoma 45), Lewis, Mascarenhas (Seanla 80), Daniels, Dawkins, Stephens.
