Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

1906    Our former player and title-winning manager Arthur Rowe (pictured, right) is born in Tottenham.

1951    Despite winning the title the previous season, we go down 7-2 at Newcastle! Yet we still recover to finish as runners-up in the table.


Luke McGee’s 20th birthday.

1899    We win 3-1 at Millwall Athletic on the opening day of our Southern League title-winning campaign. Fred Kirwan scores twice.

1939    Johnny Morrison scores a hat-trick as we win 4-3 at West Bromwich Albion to maintain our unbeaten Second Division start. The next day World War Two breaks out and the season is abandoned.


1925    Spurs Reserves beat a touring Real Madrid side 4-0 in a friendly at White Hart Lane.

1988    Paul Gascoigne makes his Spurs debut at former club Newcastle United. We draw 2-2 with Terry Fenwick and Chris Waddle on target.


Kenny McEvoy’s 21st birthday.

1899    White Hart Lane is officially opened. Chairman Charles Roberts performs the ceremonial kick-off as we take on Notts County of the First Division in a friendly. We win 4-1 in front of a 5,000 crowd.

1996    Allan Nielsen makes his debut at Wimbledon and is later replaced by substitute Rory Allen who is also playing his first senior Spurs game. We lose by the only goal.
