Brief Testimonials

White Hart Lane has said farewell to some giant names in football over the years with home fans always there to pay their respects. We look back on the careers on some special players who have all enjoyed that unique Spurs send-off.

We staged a number of benefit games at the Lane in the 1970s with tributes paid to the likes of Jimmy Greaves, Phil Beal, Alan Gilzean, Cyril Knowles, John Pratt, Steve Perryman and Terry Naylor.

Arsenal provided the opposition for Knowles and Pratt and were at the Lane again when 28,924 fans showed their affection for the great Pat Jennings, a man whose popularity would even endure when he crossed the ‘great divide’ to Highbury a year later!

Pat, still our most capped player with 75 senior international appearances for Northern Ireland, had been with us since June, 1964, and would return to our ranks briefly in 1985.
