Since our formation in 1882 we had evolved rapidly, turning professional in 1895 and making it to the Southern League the following year. But it was the turn of the century that really put us on the map.

The main picture here shows our 1900 Southern League Championship squad and lifting that prestigious title for our one and only time was a true watershed in our history. And once we had tasted glory we revelled in the momentum it brought by making history the following year when we shook the football establishment by becoming the only non-league side ever to win the FA Cup.

The catalyst, as we’ve pointed out many times before, was John Cameron’s arrival as manager. He signed as a player in May, 1898, but was in full control of the club within less than a year.
