Post Codes - FY1 6JJ

Looking at postal zones all over the country where a little bit of Spurs history was made. This month John Fennelly takes us back to FY1 6JJ – the Bloomfield Road home of Blackpool since 1899.

Having just gained promotion in such style as Champions of Division Two the season before, all eyes were on Arthur Rowe’s famous ‘Push and Run’ side as we opened our First Division programme at White Hart Lane.

A useful if declining Blackpool side were the visitors as a crowd of 64,978 gathered to assess our progress against a side boasting the likes of Stan Mortensen, Stanley Matthews, Jackie Mudie and Bill Perry.

In conclusion, it was a major disappointment as Matthews inspired his side to a 4-1 win.

Yet Rowe stuck to his principles, the Spurs team maintained their confidence in the pure footballing approach that had stood us in such stead – and we immediately embarked on a league run that saw us suffer just three defeats in our next 24 games.
