Any player who makes his first team debut for Spurs in the North London Derby amid a ferocious Wednesday evening atmosphere at the Lane is bound to hold on to the memory for a lifetime.
But for striker Dave Leworthy, who just a year before his Tottenham bow in April, 1985, had been playing non-league football with Fareham Town, such a high-profile baptism in the top division of English football served as one of many landmarks in a whirlwind week that also brought the birth of his son.
“I spent my first season in the reserves, but I knew it was going to be difficult to get into the first team with all the quality players we had at the club,” recalls Leworthy, who now works for a private school in Clapham.
