Season 1960-61 is understandably acknowledged as our best ever. A time when the Double was achieved in swashbuckling style and an exciting new chapter was written in the history of the domestic game with an effervescence that would then bubble on into Europe.
Yet there was also a genuine belief that we should have won the league the year before as Bill Nicholson completed his first full campaign as manager with all the ingredients for success already in place.
That season saw the debuts of the likes of goalkeeper Bill Brown, John White and Les Allen as Nick put the last touches to what would be his all-conquering squad.
