This month the featured number is 70 – our points haul in 1920 as we powered our way to the Second Division Championship when football resumed on a national basis at the conclusion of World War I.

The 70 points we collected when we topped the Division Two table at the end of the 1919-20 season remains our record under the two points for a win system.

Indeed, we won 32 of our 42 games that season with six draws and went 12 games undefeated from the opening day of the campaign before we lost 2-1 at Bury. We got back on track over the next five games but went down 3-0 at Barnsley!

That was a useful enough Bury side who would finish fifth come May but the Barnsley reversal was disappointing to manager Peter McWilliam’s side because the Tykes were very much a mid-table outfit who we subsequently beat 4-0 at White Hart Lane..
