GOALKEEPER: RAY CLEMENCE
Having come in at the tail end of Pat Jennings’ career, many might expect me to go for him. But the big fellow left early in my time as a fan and so I saw a great deal more of Clem. And what I saw was a highly competent and experienced international of exceptional quality. You can’t ask for much more.
RIGHT-BACK: STEVE PERRYMAN
As I say, my favourite from day one. Steve (pictured, right) had many qualities but it was his commitment to the club that was the number one asset to my mind. True, I was swayed by his all-round performance on my debut at the Lane but he was also an exceptional player who gave everything in every game.
LEFT-BACK: CHRIS HUGHTON
As with Stevie, all Spurs fans love a home-grown player. I had seen Hughton in the Reserves before my Dad finally took me to a senior game and he had always impressed with his energy and drive. He was comfortable in possession and so busy down the line that his attacking play was an added dimension.
