Spurs Diary - November

Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

1893    We are suspended by the London FA for two weeks after being found guilty of breaching our amateur status by giving new signing Ernie Payne 10 shillings to buy a pair of boots after he turns up for his first game without any.

1997    Gerry Francis oversees his last Spurs home game as manager – we lose by the only goal to Leeds United.

Diary_Rafa2    MONDAY

SPURS v ASTON VILLA, Barclays Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 8pm

Shaq Coulthirst’s 21st birthday.

1940    We are drawing 1-1 at Luton Town in the war league when an air raid siren ends the game. The Football League South result is allowed to stand.

2010    We beat European champions Inter Milan 3-1 at White Hart Lane in the Champions League (Rafael van der Vaart is pictured, right, in that game).

1924    Our London Charity Fund game at Orient sees the home side 2-1 up after 20 minutes of extra time – but then bad light stops play! And that result is also allowed to stand!

1982    We go out of the European Cup Winners’ Cup, losing 4-1 in dense fog at Bayern Munich.

1901    We beat Woolwich Arsenal 5-0 in the London League. Sandy Brown bags a hat-trick.

2000    A 2-1 home win over Sunderland. Tim Sherwood and Chris Armstrong score.
