My Spurs Debut August

The section where we invite Spurs fans to pinpoint their first ever visit to White Hart Lane and detail the players who captured their imagination in those early days. This month Ash Donovan, from Woking, takes us back to December, 1969, when he finally made it to White Hart Lane – and then had to leave early!

I was interested to read in Hotspur magazine recently about a fan making his Spurs ‘debut’ at a game that was abandoned. Because I was at that very same match and it was also my first time!

Looking back, I suppose those of us there became a little bit of Spurs history as it just looked as if we would never get to play Everton at White Hart Lane in season 1969-70 because the fixture was postponed twice.

I believe that the original date had been pencilled in for late November but heavy snow caused the game to be cancelled. It was re-arranged for mid-December and this was to be my first game.

I was there with my father, brother and a neighbour, standing on the Shelf. As I recall it was snowing heavily that night too but I can’t be sure of that. Can anyone else remember?
