Flashback - with Brian Statham

This month, former defender Brian Statham answers our questions on his playing days. Going full-time with us in 1987, Brian made 27 first team appearances in our colours and had loan spells with Reading, Bournemouth and Brentford before making a permanent move to the Bees in 1992. He played more than 150 times for the Griffin Park side over the next five years before joining Gillingham.

What was your pre-match meal?
It was roast chicken and baked beans. I don’t think there was much more to choose from in fairness – you couldn’t have chips, so that was it!

What current player would you have liked to have played alongside?
In the current Spurs team it would have to be Christian Eriksen. Spurs sides always need flair and he gives you that. There’s always something that’s going to happen when he’s in the side and he has an abundance of quality.
