Flashback - with Darren Caskey

This month, Darren Caskey recalls his playing days. Having come up through our youth ranks, the Basildon-born midfielder made his senior debut against Arsenal in August, 1993, and went on to notch up 43 appearances in our colours, scoring five goals. After a loan spell at Watford, he left us for Reading in 1996 and later represented a host of clubs including Notts County and Peterborough United before dropping down to non-league level. He is currently the assistant manager of National League side Wrexham.

What was your pre-match meal?
Ours was pretty boring, really! When I came onto the scene it was mainly pasta, beans and scrambled egg on toast.

What current player would you have liked to have played alongside?
I think I’ll go for Harry Kane. I know he’s only been in the first team regularly for about a year and we all know about the amazing season he’s just had but it’s nice to see someone come through the ranks and do well. I think more for that reason, rather than footballing reasons, I’ll say Harry.
