Spurs Diary - June

Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

Diary_Reynolds1    SUNDAY

1926    George Robb born at Finsbury Park.  He would join us, initially as an amateur, in December, 1951, before becoming a part-time professional in June, 1953, while maintaining his teaching commitments.

1959    We travel to Dynamo Kiev for a friendly where Johnny Brooks scores twice as we win 2-1 in front of a 60,000 crowd.

2    MONDAY

1912    Our friendly in Vienna against a team called Olympic Players ends in a 3-0 defeat. We had already played them twice in Budapest during the previous week – a 2-2 draw followed by a 4-3 win.

1928    Goalkeeper Ron Reynolds (pictured, right) born in Haslemere. He would join us from Aldershot in July, 1950.

3    TUESDAY

1879    Our legendary amateur international striker Vivian Woodward born in Kennington and would play for us between 1900-09.

2011    USA international goalkeeper Brad Friedel signs from Aston Villa.

4    WEDNESDAY

1959    We return from Leningrad after losing the third match of our USSR tour 3-1 to a CCCP Select side.  Brooks is again our goalscorer.

1979    Captain Steve Perryman lifts the Japan Cup after a 2-0 final win over Dundee United in Tokyo.  Gordon Smith and Ossie Ardiles are our marksmen.
