Of the 22 clubs in the Football Conference North – the sixth tier of the English football pyramid – during the 2014-15 season, we have only previously met four in a past Football League or FA Cup fixture.
Of that quartet, it is Bradford Park Avenue – who finished 13th in the division – who we have faced on the most occasions.
Formed in 1907 and re-founded in 1984, Bradford Park Avenue competed in the top flight of the Football League between 1914 and 1921 and were a professional club through until the late 1960s. We first met the Bradford side in the Southern League during the 1907-08 season before our first league meeting with them took place in the old Division Two on December 19, 1908. Billy Minter (pictured, left) and Vivian Woodward scored for us in a 2-0 win. Minter and Woodward also netted as we beat Avenue 3-0 at White Hart Lane on April 24, 1909, with John Curtis also on target.
We met Bradford Park Avenue in the old Division One during both the 1914-15 and 1920-21 seasons. Bert Bliss bagged a brace as we won 3-0 against them on November 7, 1914, with Jimmy Cantrell also scoring, while we went down to a 5-1 defeat on March 13, 1915. During the 1920-21 campaign, we met them twice within the space of a few days, with our White Hart Lane meeting of February 3, 1921, ending in a 2-0 home win. Bliss and Cantrell were the goalscorers that afternoon, while it was Jimmy Dimmock who grabbed our goal in a 1-1 draw when we met at their Horton Park Avenue ground on February 5, 1921.
