Winger Tommy Harmer was rarely beaten in any race. And certainly not when the prize at the end of it was a welcome cup of tea!

This photograph from our old Cheshunt training ground shows groundsman Don Coulston doing the honours. The players (left to right) are Ernie Walley, Bobby Smith, Maurice Norman, Peter Baker, Johnny Brooks, Harmer and Alfie Stokes.

Harmer, born in Hackney, had risen up through the ranks at White Hart Lane to turn professional in August, 1948.
