My Spurs Debut

The section where we invite Spurs fans to pinpoint their first ever visit to White Hart Lane and detail the players who captured their imagination in those early days. This month Corey James, from High Laver, recalls making his N17 bow in some style!

Benoit Assou-Ekotto wheels away in celebration after scoring against Liverpool in August, 2009.

My phone rang out of the blue one August evening in 2009. It was my pal Steve, who lived on the other side of our village.

Excitedly he told me how he’d managed to get a couple of tickets for the Premier League match between Spurs and Liverpool at the Lane the following day and asked if I wanted to go.

Before I could answer, Steve happened to mentioned that they weren’t just any seats – they were full-blown hospitality passes for the Gary Mabbutt Lounge!

A lifelong fan of Spurs, I’d never been lucky enough to actually attend a match at the Lane. I often watched on television although I actually preferred listening to the matches on the radio.

Naturally I said yes to Steve’s invitation. With it being the first game of the season it seemed like as good a time as any to finally get along to our famous stadium.
