White Hart Lane has said farewell to some giant names in football over the years with home fans always there to pay their respects. We look back on the careers on some special players who have all enjoyed that unique Spurs send-off.

Such was the professional esteem held for England right-back Danny Thomas that not only did Manchester United provide a full-strength side in opposition but Liverpool giants Kenny Dalglish and John Barnes (pictured below, right) also donned Spurs shirts for his benefit game.

The fans were also out in force with 20,190 at White Hart Lane to watch an entertaining game that saw the visitors win 3-2 on March 28, 1988. Under Dalglish’s management, Liverpool were Division One champions that year with United runners-up. We were a forgettable 13th in the table!
