Welsh international Ron Burgess did for our 1951 Championship-winning what his Scottish counterpart Dave Mackay would do for us 10 years later.
Burgess was the engine that drove Arthur Rowe’s ‘Push and Run’ side to the Division Two title in 1950 and to our first ever top flight title success a year later.
Yet for a player who was not just a Spurs great, but also the best attacking wing-half in the game at the time, we almost lost the future Tottenham and Wales captain before his career even started!
