In June, 1979, we returned from a tour to the Far East with the Japan Cup yet would run out of players by the time that we headed on to Bermuda and so two members of our backroom staff would make their Spurs debuts!
We had already defeated the Kuwait Army 2-1 with goals from Mark Falco and Ricky Villa before flying on to Kuala Lumpur where Falco bagged a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over a Malaysian Select XI. One of Mark’s goals came from the penalty spot with Colin Lee also on target in front of an estimated 30,000 crowd.
Next stop Yokohama and the first of our Japan Cup games, a 6-0 hammering of Indonesia that saw Lee and Villa both score twice with Don McAllister and Tony Galvin also on target.
