    Deputy Head of Operations

    Tottenham Hotspur Football Club

    Tottenham Hotspur Football Club operates out of multiple sites, including a world class Training Centre, where the position of Deputy Head of Operations is based. The Centre is the main location for the Club’ first team training and coaching activities, and also houses a youth academy where over 200 players aged between 7 and 21 train and play matches.

    A world class facility, the Training Centre is spread over 75 acres, within which lie 14 football pitches and a nature reserve with kitchen garden. Internal facilities include 2 gyms, medical treatment rooms, meeting rooms and classrooms, 2 restaurants, a press auditorium, swimming pools and 2 receptions.

    Future plans for the centre include an elite lodge accommodation of approximately 50 bedrooms, intended for professional football teams and scheduled to open in late 2017. 

    The  Head of Operations oversees all Training Centre activities and future plans, line managing the advertised role as well as the Heads of Cleaning, Maintenance, Reception and Security (who are in turn supported by around 55 external contractors).

    The Deputy Head of Operations will fulfil a lynchpin role which will include managing the day-to-day administration of the operations office and the Training Centre’s busy activity schedule, overseeing resources across the site, and providing comprehensive support and absence cover to the Head of Operations, as required. The role will be involved with all levels of staff and visitors and therefore requires the ability to build strong relationships, and will suit someone who enjoys diversity, as it will range from standalone administrative duties to hands on work as part of a team.

    The position is full-time; it will include shift-work and regular weekend work, so a flexible candidate is sought.

    JOB PURPOSE

    To support the Head of Operations in the smooth day-to-day running of the Training Centre site and operations office, to include efficient scheduling of some 200+ events per year (e.g. youth football matches, training sessions and miscellaneous activities).

    To maintain the highest of standards, the smoothest of operations and the warmest of welcomes to support the staff and players visiting and training at the centre, forging strong relationships with all stakeholders.

    To refine, develop and build new systems designed to improve efficiency and service. 

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support the Head of Operations in overseeing the major services of Catering, Security, Reception, Cleaning and Maintenance
    • Deputise for the Head of Operations as required (including acting as Club ambassador by performing occasional tours of the site)
    • Uphold excellent standards, ensuring the facilities are immaculate at all times and directing resources as appropriate, to ensure issues are resolved promptly
    • Oversee the daily schedule of activities (internal and external), liaising with individual event organisers as appropriate, and ensuring the appropriate facilities are available for each
    • Manage the day-to-day administration of the operations office (includes being point of contact for operations enquiries, maintaining efficient records and accounting procedures)
    • Employ excellent communication to build relationships with all stakeholders (including senior management, contractors and visitors)
    • Balance and support the requirements of the footballing and commercial obligations of the Club

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Facilities management experience
    • Experience providing excellent customer service
    • Experience dealing or liaising with senior management
    • Understanding of venue diary management
    • IT literate, with excellent knowledge of  Microsoft office suite
    • Good level of fitness as required for hands on working style across a vast site
    • Some experience of budget management and/or a good level of numeracy
    • An appreciation of international cultures
    • Driving license (own vehicle preferred)
    • A foreign language (desirable)
    • A background in hospitality (desirable)
