  • THIS IS MICHAEL'S STORYmichael-stern-hotspur-hero-day

Michael Stern was nominated by his daughter Elaine. Michael celebrated his 80th birthday in November marking the end of his 71st year of coming to White Hart Lane.

Michael’s first game was during the war, on 25 November 1944 when Spurs beat Fulham 2-1 at home watched by a crowd of just 14,300 fans. Aged just 9 years old, Michael came with 2 friends on the No 649 bus from Stamford Hill and got in to watch the game from the Paxton Road End for just 7d (equivalent of 3p). Apart from years spent as a young man doing National Service from 1956-1958, Michael has attended almost every home game and has had a season ticket for over 50 years. In 1974 he bought his daughter Elaine (who will be celebrating her 40th year as a season ticket holder) to her first game at the Lane and can now boast proudly of 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter who are all mad Spurs fans...

His favourite and most memorable game was played out in pouring rain in front at the Lane on 3 December 1960 when Mackay and Jones were amongst the scorers for Spurs.

Michael was presented with a special gift pitchside by Cliff Jones at Tottenham Hotspur's match against Chelsea on Sunday 29 November 2015
