Ricardo Rocha

2007 - 2007

We welcomed Portuguese international Ricardo Rocha to the Lane in January 2007.

A defender comfortable in any position across the back line, Rocha joined Benfica from SC Braga in 2002, winning the Portuguese Cup in 2004 and Portuguese title in 2004-05, when he formed a formidable centre-back partnership with Luisao.

He played a key role in Benfica's run to the last eight of the Champions League last season and played in five Champions League matches this season.

Capped six times by Portugal, Rocha appeared in two friendlies against Scotland and Italy in 2002-03 and returned to the international fold this season, playing in Euro 2008 qualifiers against Finland, Azerbaijan and Poland.

Sporting Director, Damien Comolli, said: “Ricardo is an accomplished defender who gives us further options in defence as he can play both in the centre and on the right.

“He brings considerable experience to Tottenham having played at the highest level in European competition and is also a current Portuguese international. Ricardo has shown a great desire to come to White Hart Lane and will no doubt prove to be a valuable addition to the squad at this important time.”
