Matthew Etherington

2000 - 2003

Matthew joined the club along with Simon Davies from Peterborough United in 1999. The young left-sided player had impressed in his time at Peterborough, where he made his debut as a 15 year old.

His energetic running and sheer pace caused a problem for defenders but despite this he struggled to hold down a starting place. Truro born Etherington scored 2 goals for Spurs, in 51 appearances and began to become disappointed with his lack of opportunities.

The England youth International went on to play for West Ham featuring in their 2006 FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool before moving in 2009 to Stoke City, becoming a key member of Tony Pulis’s side.
