Signing from Charlton Athletic, Darren Bent had a tough start to his to his time at White Hart Lane. He scored his first Spurs goal at Derby in only his second start, but struggled to find the net consistently.
He enjoyed a more successful season in 2008/2009 when Harry Redknapp took charge. The England international scored a brace in the memorable 4-4 draw at the Emirates in October, before scoring his first hat-rick for Spurs in a Uefa Cup tie against Dinamo Zagreb, following up with 2 against Manchester City 3 days later.
Despite scoring 17 goals and becoming our top goal scorer for the season, Bent lost his place at the Lane. In summer of 2009 an offer from Sunderland was accepted.
