As part of our ongoing commitment to equalities and inclusion, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation was delighted to welcome Katie Piper and her guests from The Katie Piper Foundation to White Hart Lane for a very special Wellbeing Day.

The pilot event, the first of its kind to be delivered in partnership with The Katie Piper Foundation, was designed to establish how Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s wellbeing and physical activity projects could be adapted for individuals living with burns or scars, and their families.

Members of The Katie Piper Foundation, who have experienced burns or scarring, together  with their families were welcomed in to the relaxed environment of the stadium, to share recovery journeys and to take part in a fun day of activities including football coaching and seated aerobics.

Staff from both Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and The Katie Piper Foundation delivered motivational speeches, demonstrating how supportive workshops, coupled with exercise and physical activities, can help to build confidence and increase a person’s sense of wellbeing.

Exercise can be used as a way to help burns survivors and their families take the next steps on the road to recovery, regaining fitness and bringing people together to build a network of support that participants can lean on during their rehabilitation period.

Set up in 2009 by best-selling international author and TV presenter Katie Piper, The Katie Piper Foundation seeks to create a world where scars do not limit a person’s function, social inclusion or sense of well-being.

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation believes in the power of sport, and in particular football, as a vehicle to create life changing opportunities for children, groups and individuals within the community. This is achieved by working with a wide range of partners including central and local government departments, schools, colleges, businesses and charitable trusts to design programmes that engage with all sections of the community.

Katie Piper, Founder of The Katie Piper Foundation, said: “We were so grateful to have been invited by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to host our event at the Lane and thrilled to have been able to give our KPF beneficiaries and their  families a “behind the scenes” look at the stadium and the opportunity to  take part in the day’s activities. My special thanks to all at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation for their kindness and professionalism in co-ordinating such a fantastic day for us.”

Grant Cornwell MBE, Chief Executive Officer at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “It was an honour to welcome Katie, her guests and their families to White Hart Lane and we’re extremely proud to be the first Football Club to deliver a Wellbeing Day in partnership with The Katie Piper Foundation.

“Football has a unique way of bringing people together. Through our Equalities and Inclusion programmes, we’ve seen first-hand how sport can be used as a support tool – both physically and mentally – to help people overcome extremely tough challenges incurred from injuries and disabilities.

“Working closely with The Katie Piper Foundation and using a combination of physical activity, peer support and motivational workshops, we’re looking forward to building and delivering sessions in the future to support burns survivors and their families.”
