A variety of stalls selling locally grown produce, along with an exciting mix of activities and events, will transform Tottenham Square on the High Road into a small piece of the Essex countryside for the day this Saturday, July 20.

Taking place between 10am-4pm, visitors will be able to learn about the exact origins of their food as well as listen to a range of expert cooking demonstrations hosted by chefs from Tottenham Hotspur’s caterers, The Lindley Group.

Young people will also have the opportunity to take part in football activities delivered by qualified Tottenham Hotspur Foundation coaches including measuring the speed of their shot and testing the accuracy of their pass.

The market is being held in partnership between Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and is funded by The Lindley Group as part of a joint initiative to promote healthy eating locally.

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation coaches, along with The Lindley Group chefs, have visited nine local primary schools helping more than 450 pupils to grow their own produce as well as running cooking workshops educating classes on how to use their own grown fruit and vegetables in healthy meals.

Maria Abraham, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing Manager said: “This is a fantastic partnership event which allows us to spread the message on how to live a healthier lifestyle through eating a balanced diet and taking part in regular physical activities.

“By showcasing the wide range of fresh fruit and vegetable available at this time of year and explaining their origins, we hope to be able to inspire local residents to try something new.”

Anna Standen, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at The Lindley Group, added: “We feel that the Farmers’ Market at Tottenham Square is a fantastic way to celebrate a successful programme with the local schools where coaching, learning to grow your own produce and how to cook it promoted healthier lifestyles and helped reconnect children to where their food comes from.

“It is wonderful to be a part of educating the next generation and trust everyone will enjoy sampling local, seasonal and home cooked produce at the market!”

Mike Allen, from the Essex Farmers’ Market said: “I’m delighted we’ve been asked to bring our markets to the people of Tottenham allowing them to sample the great tastes of the Essex countryside. We’ll have on offer fresh produce from fruit and vegetables to beef, lamb and pork, as well as free range eggs and locally produce artisan breads, cakes and much more.”
