Christian Eriksen got a glimpse of what will be on offer to students at the Tottenham University Technical College when it opens next year.

The Danish midfielder joined youngsters from Gladesmore, Woodside High and Parkview schools to take part in a range of demonstrations put on by Middlesex University and other sponsors of the scheme, including Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

The Club earlier this year reached agreement with the Department for Education and the Education Funding Authority to locate the new University Technical College (UTC) for Tottenham within the Northumberland Development Project.

The Tottenham UTC will be established above the new Sainsbury’s supermarket and is planned to open in September 2014.

Work has already begun on designing the interior of the building in order to create purpose-built spaces, which will work to enhance the learning environment for the students and support the delivery of the Tottenham UTC’s pioneering and inspirational curriculum focused around its specialism of the Technology of Science, illustrated through sport and health.

Christian said: “I am impressed with the activities on offer. It’s all very clever and nothing like what was available to me when I was at school.

“It’s important to give youngsters something to think about and fire their imagination through things like science and technology, and coming to learn at a football club will no doubt be appealing to a lot of kids.

“When I was at school, I was focused on my football and have been fortunate enough to make it to the top, but having a good education is the most important thing for any young person."

With the site now secure, the Tottenham UTC are now moving forward with the recruitment of students for the next academic year. The College will initially open its doors to Year 10 and Year 12 students and will grow to over 900 students aged 14 – 18 when at full capacity.
