State of Play challenges people’s attitudes towards mental health, breaking down participation and inclusion barriers, within the community, for anyone with mental health needs.

Young people with mental health needs, personally or through family/peers, are offered the opportunity to gain accreditation as a Wellbeing Champion or Level 1 FA football coach. Subsequently through this experience, and accredited recognition of their understanding, we believe the participants will feel energised and empowered to engage with community sports initiatives and facilitate conversations to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

There is clear evidence from the Time to Change campaign that direct social contact and conversations about mental health can have a significant impact on reducing stigma and raising mental health awareness.

Commissioned by Haringey Public Health, State of Play was developed in partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, New Choices for Youth and Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust.
