Target Group:Year 6 primary school students in Haringey. Funded by:Haringey Council.Partners:Metropolitan Police Safer Partnership, Haringey Council, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, Transport for London and EDF Energy Networks.Content:The programme is designed to help year six children learn about Health, Safety and Citizenship in a fun and exciting educational environment before they make the vital transition into secondary school. The programme consists of simulated scenarios that are used to make possible dangers come to life, providing children with a controlled environment in which they can safely participate and learn through hands-on experience. They involve the practical application of the child’s knowledge through worksheets and interactive workshops. It encourages children to take a positive role in society and gives them the skills and confidence to deal with emergency and difficult situations. The focus will be particularly on anti-social behaviour, bullying, health and safety. There will also be workshops from London Fire Brigade, Haringey Road Safety and London Ambulance Service.
The transition from primary to secondary school is important in the lives of children and their families, yet research has shown that transitions can be stressful for children, that continuity of curriculum between primary and secondary school may suffer during transition and that some vulnerable children need intervention prior to transition..
