The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation launched a unique programme this week to get the people of Haringey back on their bikes!
cycleFUN is a council-funded programme aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of local people through cycling.
Foundation coaches will lead people of all ages on routes from White Hart Lane around the local area every week on special Spurs-branded bikes.
Coaching and maintenance qualifications for those who would like to take cycling a step further and inspire other Haringey residents to get back on a bike or learn to ride a bike from scratch is also provided.
The project aims to address the low levels of cycling within the Borough, thus reducing congestion and pollution.
By March 2013, it is hoped that cycleFUN would have engaged over 100 people in Haringey, including women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Over 75 rides and 60 coaching sessions would have taken place with the hope that 25% of participants will become regular cyclists.
The project was launched at White Hart Lane by Grant Cornwell MBE, Chief Executive of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, and Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for Environment.
