Jermain Defoe caught up with three young people from his E18HTEEN project at White Hart Lane.
The day after hitting two goals in our 3-1 win at Reading last weekend, the in-form striker took time out from his busy schedule to take part in a group mentoring session.
Pierre, Lanre and Lyndy got the chance to update Jermain on what they had been up to over the summer, as well as ask any advice as they continue to gain the qualifications needed for future employment.
E18HTEEN works with around 80 young people not in employment or education who have been in care or are care leavers.
The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, in partnership with Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest Councils, provide each young person with a full-time mentor.
Jermain acts as a postive role model and mentor for the group, and said: “It was great chatting to the guys and finding out what they’ve been up to.
“It’s a great feeling to know that I can talk to them, offer some advice and help them in some way - it’s just as important to me as my football, to be honest.
“Pierre was talking about how he’d been doing security work at the Paralympics and what a great experience that was, and Lyndy was saying that she’s managed to get a job on the catering staff at Spurs, just from being around at the club.
“The project has been running for about a year and it’s going well. Hopefully they have all got bright futures ahead of them.”
