Road To The Lane With Roberto Soldado

A detailed timeline on the route our current players have taken from day one on their way to Tottenham. This month we feature our Spanish international striker ROBERTO SOLDADO.

1985 Born on May 27 in Valencia. Full name Roberto Soldado Rillo.  

1990 Already showing enough promise to start in youth football at the age of five with local club Don Bosco.

2000 At 15 he is spotted by Real Madrid and joins their youth ranks.

2001 Makes two appearances for Spain’s Under-15 side.

2002 Steps up to play for the Real Madrid B team where he hits a prolific vein of goalscoring. Now playing and scoring regularly for Spain’s Under-17 team.

2003 Scores three goals in three outings for Spain at Under-18 level. Also wins caps for the Under-19s.

2004 November 10 sees him make his senior debut for Real against Tenerife in the Copa del Rey. UEFA Under-19 Championship winner. By now also an established Under-21 international.

2005 Steps up for his league debut against Valencia on October 23. Also experiences Champions League football for the first time, scoring a late winner against Olympiakos. Scores 19 goals in season 2005-06 for Real Madrid Castilla to finish as joint second highest goalscorer in the Segunda Division and share the Zarra Trophy.
