January Birthday Boy - Colin Calderwood

Colin Calderwood was brought to Spurs by Ossie Ardiles after playing under the Argentine World Cup winner at Swindon Town.

The Scottish defender had been Ossie’s skipper during his tenure at the County Ground – and the decision of the South American to bring him to White Hart Lane, despite a lack of top flight experience, proved a shrewd one.

Born in Stranraer, on January 20, 1965, where his father worked on the ferry, Colin never actually played competitive football north of the border, instead starting his career with Mansfield Town for whom he made a century of league appearances.
