Spurs Diary - February

Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

HULL CITY v SPURS, Barclays Premier League, at the KC Stadium, 3pm.

1899    We travelled to Newton Heath, now known as Manchester United, for a first round FA Cup replay, and won 5-3.  We’d already played seven games to reach this stage and would go all the way to round three.

2    SUNDAY

1928    Legendary winger Tommy Harmer, known affectionately as ‘The Charmer,’ born in Hackney.  He would start with us as an amateur in August, 1945.

3    MONDAY

1960    We establish our record win with a 13-2 home victory over Crewe. Les Allen (5) and Bobby Smith (4) led the way for us in an FA Cup fourth round replay. We went out in the next round at home to Blackburn Rovers! Rovers lost to Wolves in the final.

1979    Tony Galvin makes his Spurs debut at home to Manchester City.  We lose 3-0.

4    TUESDAY

1933    Willie Evans (pictured, right) scores twice as we beat Grimsby Town 4-3 at White Hart Lane in Division Two. We are promoted at the end of the season.

1961    We suffer our first home defeat of our ‘Double’ season.  Leicester City depart with a 3-2 win.
