Season 1924-25 wasn’t a great one for Spurs as Peter McWilliam’s side continued to bounce along in mid-table before finally being relegated from Division One in 1928.
Yet we continued to attract a great deal of media interest as this ‘Football and Sports Favourite’ cover from December 6, 1924, demonstrates.
We travelled to Newcastle United that day where we gained a creditable 1-1 with Jack Elkes scoring our goal but we would only win 15 of our 42 league games that term to finish 12th at the end of the season.
Huddersfield Town were champions, two points ahead of second-placed West Bromwich Albion. Preston North End and Nottingham Forest went down.
In the FA Cup, we eclipsed Northampton Town in the first round but needed a replay to get past a useful Bolton Wanderers side. Blackburn Rovers knocked us out after a third round replay.
Clapton Orient beat us in the semi-final of the London FA Charity Cup at Highbury and were on their way to ending our interest in the London Professional Football Charity Fund when bad light saw the match abandoned 20 minutes into extra time due to bad light.
Harry Hargreaves scored goals in all those games while, in the FA Cup, Jimmy Seed, Jimmy Dimmock and Billy Lane notched two apiece. Seed also top scored for us in the league with 17.
