Birthday Boy with Gudni Bergsson

One of just a handful of Icelandic players to have represented Spurs, defender Gudni Bergsson showed tremendous patience and versatility during his time at the Lane.

The young defender, who was studying law when he arrived in the UK, was recruited by then-manager Terry Venables in late 1988 to aid our cause in keeping the opposition frozen out.

And despite finding himself deployed at full-back, as opposed to his preferred role as a sweeper, he remained calm on the ball and crisp in the tackle despite constant pressure for his place in the side.
