Marcus Edwards is a skilful attacking midfielder with impressive dribbling ability and a willingness to drive at opponents.
He featured primarily for our development squad in 2016-17 despite still only being in his second year of full-time football with us.
He played for the first team during pre-season in 2016 and scored two cracking goals for our Under-23s in a 4-1 away win at Reading that August. He made his senior competitive debut as a substitute in our 5-0 EFL Cup third round win over Gillingham in September, 2016, before being laid low win an ankle injury, which kept him out for around three months during the middle of the campaign.
He scored on his comeback for the Under-23s at Liverpool in February, 2017, and also had the distinction of scoring the last Under-23s goal at White Hart Lane when he buried a late penalty in a defeat to Leicester City in May, 2017, just 10 days before the stadium's closure. He ended that season with five goals in 10 Premier League 2 appearances to his name, having also played twice in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League.
London born and bred, Marcus attended Winchmore Hill School.
He enjoyed a good season with our Under-18s in 2014-15 while still a schoolboy. In total, he featured 14 times that season – 11 in the league and three substitute appearances in the FA Youth Cup. He also opened his goalscoring account at that level, netting in a win over Brighton in January, 2015.
He scored seven goals in 19 league appearances for our Under-18s in 2015-16. He also scored once in our two FA Youth Cup ties and made five substitute appearances for the Under-21s during the course of that campaign.
Marcus has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels - winning the European Under-19 Championship with the Young Lions in Georgia in July, 2017.
